Mary Nordberg

Dr. Nordberg received her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and followed with her Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Texas Medical Branch.  She pursued a post-doctoral fellowship in Tumor Genetics in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport.  Subsequently, in 1989, she became the Chief of Cytogenetics and Immunopathology at Penrose Hospital/Centura Health in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  She remained in that capacity until 1998.  Dr. Nordberg pursued a fellowship in Medical Genetics/Cytogenetics at the University of Utah Medical School, ultimately returning to Penrose Hospital to pursue her laboratory duties.  In 1998, she was recruited to become the Director of the Cytogenetics/Molecular Genetics laboratory at LSU Medical Center/Feist-Weiller Cancer Center in Shreveport, LA.  She remained as Laboratory Director at LSUHSC until 2011, when she joined the Delta Pathology Group as the Technical Director of Delta Molecular Diagnostics (Delta MDx).  She remains on the Faculty at LSU Health where she is involved in many medical school courses, incorporating genetic education and in-services for medical students, residents, fellows, and staff.   She joined the staff of Willis-Knighton Cancer Center full-time in January 2019.  In this capacity, Dr. Nordberg is part of an active Genetics Clinic, incorporating genetic testing and education for many patients and their families impacted by genetic diseases, including cardiovascular, women’s health, pediatrics, and cancer.  Dr. Nordberg is a member of the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC) and is certified in Cancer Risk Assessment (CGRA).
